The Amazon of Europe Bike Trail is an international long-distance cycling trail offering you an unique opportunity for cycling holidays, following the natural meanders of the rivers Mura, Drava and Danube, for over 1,250 km. The cycle tour leads you along both sides of these rivers, with their North and South Routes. Cycle through endless floodplains and picturesque cultural landscapes across five countries, where nature doesn’t know any borders.
It is split into two routes: the North Route (550 km) and the South Route (700 km), both of which provide plenty of opportunities to visit tourism attractions and to experience the rivers. Each route is further divided into daily stages – there are 11 stages on the North Route and 16 on the South Route, 27 in total. The start point of both routes of the Bike Trail is in the town of Mureck, Austria (close to Graz) and the end point in the town of Mohács, Hungary (close to Pécs)
South Route
The South Route of the Amazon of Europe Bike Trail starts in Mureck (AT) and shortly thereafter crosses the border to Slovenia, running through a region rich in nature and history, and then past Banovci enters Croatia. There, it continues through Sveti Martin na Muri, known for its milling tradition, towards Mursko Središće, offering stunning views of the most intact riverine landscapes. It travels further to Prelog and the picturesque Baroque city of Varaždin until it enters Podravina near Legrad, where the beautiful Mura-Drava confluence is located. The route continues to the historical towns of Koprivnica and Đurđevac, famous for their sand dunes also known as the “Croatian Sahara”. The bike trail continues its winding way through picturesque settlements and peaceful areas boasting natural beauties along the Drava, before it finally reaches the town of Osijek. From there, the route crosses the border to Serbia, passing the charming cities of Apatin and Sombor through the “Gornje Podunavlje” Special Nature Reserve. The trail then crosses the border to Hungary and continues through a rural area until reaching its final destination in the town of Mohács (HU).
